Wastech acid
neutralization tanks have years of proven
suitability in handling tough effluents. Our line of
polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP)
neutralization tanks are designed to withstand the
heat of neutralization, the corrosive attack of
acids, bases, toxics or other types of chemical
wastes and the weight of mixers and pumps. The
variety of tank options can be seen in the
OMEGA Acid & Caustic Waste
Neutralization Packages and
LabDELTA Laboratory Waste
Treatment Solutions. See
OMEGA
Neutralization System Features.
Function
Wastech
neutralization tanks are designed to facilitate the
dilution and neutralization of harmful wastes that
may be discharged from laboratories, industrial
processes or other polluting sources. These tanks
are also useful as equalization tanks for diluting
polluted effluent destined for chemical treatment
plants or municipal water treatment facilities by
reducing the burden placed on these plants.

Construction
Wastech
neutralization tanks are either cylindrical
rotationally molded with fabricated and gasketed PP
covers, or are custom designed and fabricated from
PP sheet.
Each rotationally
molded tank is engineered to be strong enough for
bulk limestone and hot liquid waste (not to exceed
140F.) Covers are strong enough for mixer mounting
and include inspection ports with clear, bolted
covers. Gaskets are neoprene. Tanks will include
inlets for pH probes and sensors, outlets and vents
as specified. These tanks are designed for
industrial applications and, if installed correctly,
will not collapse with normal loading. Mixer or
equipment bridges are available.
Fabricated tanks are
custom designed for industrial applications using
1/2” or 3/4” PP sheet. Also available is flame
retardant sheet. Steel reinforcing rings are
provided as needed and can be external to the tank
or integral and enclosed in PP. Each tank is mounted
on a PP or steel skid for forklift maneuverability.
Lift points or lugs can be requested. Seismic Zone 4
designs are also available with PE certifications.
Flanged inlet and outlets, sensor fittings, manholes
and viewing ports are provided.
All neutralization
tanks can be double-contained. Two-wall construction
offers additional security from leaking. Leak
detection sensors are provided as requested. Leak
paths are avoided with top loading sensors and
equipment.

Operation
The neutralization
medium can be limestone chips, 1"-3" diameter,
liquid acid, or caustic. In limestone operations,
the acids percolate up through the limestone and are
chemically neutralized into salts, water and carbon
dioxide. When acid or caustic is used, chemical
metering pumps with double contained tubing is used.
Exothermic reactions are always possible. In extreme
cases, PVDF heat exchangers can be added for
cooling.
Caution: There
are many variables affecting neutralization and
dilution of chemicals discharged through a system.
Professional Wastech engineering assistance should
be employed in analyzing the effluent and
recommending the appropriate equipment and
maintenance services.
Note:
Neutralization media or chemicals are not included
in tank quotations.
