pH Neutralization / pH Adjustment Systems for industrial wastewater treatment

News

Wastech Controls & Engineering specializes in pre-packaged, skid-mounted, turn-key process equipment, including wastewater treatment systems, pump lift stations, and collection cabinets. Wastech recently supplied a continuous pH neutralization system to a local MEMS manufacturer. The contractor had never installed such a system but with Wastech's guidance the system was delivered, installed, and commissioned all in the same day without ever shutting down the facility's manufacturing process. Pre-packaged systems such as this offer clients many benefits which include:

Confidence in Design and Delivery

All Wastech systems are designed in detail in 3D CAD, machined using our in-house CNC capability, and assembled by skilled welders, pipe fitters, and electricians to ensure that the system proposed in our detailed submittal package will be exactly what is delivered. All Wastech systems are rigorously tested at our facility prior to shipment. Wastech has dedicated test equipment for simulating the conditions and processes expected in the field, and a detailed Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) is developed specifically for each system that we manufacture.

Single Party Responsibility

With a pre-packaged Wastech system there is no need to coordinate with multiple contractors and equipment suppliers onsite. Wastech coordinates everything to ensure that the skid is delivered complete, tested, and ready to run, and our customers need only come to us for support. Wastech has standardized on quality equipment and our experienced mechanical, electrical, process, and controls engineers are available to provide complete technical support services for every component on the system.

Reduced Installation Time and Cost

Because the system arrives pre-packaged, the installing contractor needs only to place the system, connect the piping, and provide facility power. In fact, many of Wastech's standard systems require less than 5 installation steps before being completely ready for commissioning. There is no need to fit, align, wire, or install multiple pieces of equipment or "figure it out as you go along". Mistakes and oversights are removed from the process and the downtime and impact on facility manufacturing processes is significantly reduced. This results in overall time and cost savings for both the installing contractor and the end user.

Support

Wastech stands behind its products and is there to assist its customers every step of the way. Since we specialize in custom equipment, we develop project-specific installation instructions and O&M manuals for every system. Our dedicated Field Service team offers installation and startup supervision, operator training, phone support and troubleshooting, remote system monitoring, service contracts, and preventative maintenance programs. Every system that leaves our facility is seen as an opportunity to develop or maintain a relationship with our clients for years to come.

Need a pre-packaged system? Wastech's highly-skilled, in-house team of engineers and craftsmen have been manufacturing custom systems for over 26 years. We will work with you in delivering a quality, pre-tested, and startup-ready system to your facility's front door. Let us take the guess work and research out of selecting multiple components and managing multiple vendors. Available in both continuous and batch configurations, the fully-automated LabDELTA™ product line from Wastech Controls & Engineering safely and efficiently solves small volume laboratory waste treatment problems.

Compact enough to be located anywhere inside a laboratory; LabDELTA™ skid design may incorporate a Wastech pump lift station with collection tanks and pumps and be located near floor drains for gravity discharge into the sewer. The skid can also be configured and custom designed for installation under counters or inside cabinets. Control panels are normally mounted on the units, but can be remotely located anywhere in the lab. The most common application for a Wastech LabDELTA™ system is acid/caustic waste neutralization, but virtually any process waste can be treated, including concentrated acid or concentrated caustic. The LabDELTA™ product line from Wastech will adjust pH properly and eliminate any risk or accidents to lab personnel associated with exothermic reactions, spills and burns.

LabDETLA™Plus Continuous System

LabDELTA PlusThe LabDELTA™Plus is a skid-mounted pH adjustment system for neutralizing small-volume laboratory process wastewater and is designed for a continuous flow up to 3 gpm.  This continuous system incorporates two active treatment stages along with effluent pH monitoring feature to ensure that the treated wastewater will be safe to discharge to the public sewer line.

Standard features include:

  • UL-Listed control panel
  • NEMA 4 powder-coated steel enclosure
  • PLC-based control system with 7" color touch screen HMI with built-in remote access via Ethernet
  • Dry contacts for common alarm, influent permissive, and pH out of range
  • Run permissive for remote enable/disable
  • pH probes in reaction tanks and monitoring tank
  • Discharge pH monitoring, trending and logging
  • Double-contained 14-gallon acid and caustic chemical day tanks
  • PVC metering pumps
  • Seismic tie-downs
  • Gravity or pumped discharge

LabDELTA™Batch

The LabDELTA™Batch is a skid-mounted pH adjustment system that is designed for neutralizing small-volume laboratory process wastewater. This batch system includes a 20 gallon holding tank that stores wastewater before being transferred to a 10 gallon reaction tank. Batch systems use one active treatment stage to ensure that the wastewater will be neutralized to the required discharge pH level before entering the sewer line.

Standard features include:

  • UL-Listed control panel
  • NEMA 4 powder-coated steel enclosure
  • PLC-based control system with 7" color touchscreen HMI with built-in remote access via Ethernet
  • Dry contacts for common alarm and influent permissive
  • Run permissive for remote enable/disable
  • pH probe in recirculation/discharge piping
  • Discharge pH monitoring, trending and logging
  • Double-contained acid and caustic chemical day tanks
  • PVC metering pumps
  • Seismic tie-downs
  • Pumped discharge

If your manufacturing process involves solvents like Formalin, IPA and Acetone, it is highly likely that you've encountered some of the following challenges associated with disposing of them:

Solvents are hazardous and difficult to destroy. Because of their volatile nature, solvents pose a high fire hazard and must be handled as an explosion risk. Usually a Class 1, Div 1 or Div 2 explosion proof rating is needed. In addition, double containment is typically required due to contamination risks.

A solvent must be segregated from other waste streams. Often the solvent is recycled and must be collected for sale to a licensed recycler. If not hauled from the premises, it must be destroyed. This is usually achieved by oxidation using either combustion or advanced oxidation techniques.

Pumping solvent can be a problem. Most solvents are incompatible with seals and pump materials. Although polypropylene is rated for some solvents, PVC and solvent welded joints are not. Typically, the piping system is stainless steel and the pump lift stations are rated explosion-proof. Air operated stainless steel pumps are desirable because they avoid all electrical risks. An explosion-proof solenoid valve may be located on the pump for air control, or a control and monitoring panel may be located in a non-classified safe area and include solenoid valves for pump control.

Wastech Solvent Collection Systems

Wastech is a leading supplier of cutting-edge solvent collection systems used in industrial processes and laboratory applications. These stainless steel systems are Class 1, Div 2 rated for explosive environments and are in compliance with NFPA code 30 requirements. Each collection system is monitored by a central control panel, which displays or communicates data on level in the collection tank(s).

  Solvent Cabinet With Panel

Two collection drums with automatic change-over capabilities eliminate mistakes and accidents. The interchangeable drums are installed in a fire-rated enclosure, fully contained, with leak detection and monitoring sensors. Each system is fully monitored and can offer various communication options. Central or local control panels are available using PLC or relay logic.
